Another busy week for me with another review, rehearsals and even a quick radio interview!
To start off with, I began a new venture for my blog – #MusicalMondays. Each week I’m going to ask my followers a theatre related question and then create a blog post around it, celebrating all the great aspects of musical theatre! My first one was a bit of a classic – what’s your favourite West End musical? I had a great response, I hope you’ll all keep coming back next week and even suggest some questions for us to discuss!
Next, more Jesus Christ Superstar rehearsals with my amateur group Bromley Players. The first few numbers are really starting to take shape now and with the box office opening we sold 6% of all tickets in the first few days! I think this might be another sellout for us which is exciting!
Then, the highlight of my week. On Wednesday I went down to the Greenwich Theatre to see The Who’s Tommy! Boy did I have a great time. You can read my full review here but in short – it’s phenomenal. A real piece of art. It was so good it made my mug collection (which I should tell you is a very select group reserved for musicals that really impress me). To top it off I was home by 10pm as Greenwich is literally up the road for me. Top night!
To round off the week I was lucky enough to go on Shoreditch Radio on Sunday night to do some live theatre reviews! Now I haven’t been on the radio in two years (since my Fly FM breakfast show days at university) so I was a bit nervous but I had good material to work with, reviewing Tommy, Memphis and Miss Saigon to name a few. It went pretty well – you can actually listen back here. It looks like I’ll be back next month too to review Hamlet and Kinky Boots!
Next week looks a lot quieter for me in terms of theatre. Apart from rehearsals, I will be mainly focussing on my new job so it could be a quiet one! I’ll hopefully manage to do a few opinion pieces for the blog so it’s not too quiet but I’m excited to get stuck in with some new work! Watch this space!
